The slightly longer version.

I was born in Huainan City in China and spent the first four years of my life there. I was born with a cleft lip and palate, and thus I was placed up for adoption. At the age of four I was adopted by my parents and moved to the United States. While I can not explain my youth, and the parts of my life that control me to this day, I can say that those events are the only reason I am the person I am today. I do not want to see people struggle and so I make it my goal to help people in anyway I can provide. I try and navigate social situations with care as I do not want people to have the same sense on unbelonging that I struggled with, and I always try to be there for people who need a friend.

Since I moved to the United States I have been very fortunate to have been given the treatment I have needed and the support to become a person that so many of my adoptees have not been given. Whilest I was not given a home for the first four years of my life can now reflect on this... For me home is not a place, it is the people who I surround myself with. For these reasons part of my life goals are to help those around me who are unable to help themselves, and by the time I kick the bucket I hope to have made a positive change in the lives of those around me.

My drive to help is what has led me to pursue a career in mechanical engineering (hopefully with a concetration in robotics). At Cornell University I hope to pursue my dreams in helping others. My drive to support and lead is why I want to do robotics, ideally I can create technology that can help those who are unable to help themselves. As Plato once said "Any man may easily do harm, but not every man can do good to another." (Laws, VIII. 843d).
